We’ve created high-quality cookware since 1873, so we’ve learned a few things over the years. Here’s a quick rundown of some fast facts, commonly asked questions, and some things that are just good to know.

Environment

ARE YOUR PANS SAFE FOR PETS?

Your pan will not release any toxic fumes, even when overheated. However, it is highly recommended to keep pets and birds well away from the kitchen when cooking. Food and cooking oils when overheated can be a source of fumes that are toxic for pets, particularly for our feathered friends.

WHAT ARE THESE PANS MADE OF?

That depends on the collection. We use a wide range of materials in our collections, including stainless steel, carbon steel, and high-quality enamel. Each of our product pages will detail the pan’s construction.

WHERE ARE MERTEN & STORCK PRODUCTS MADE?

Our 1873 Dutch ovens and braisers have been made in the same Drensteinfurt, Germany factory since 1873. Unlike most cookware companies, we own our factory, and we carefully control the process. We’ve won numerous awards for our environmental safety, our worker satisfaction, and our overall standards.

WILL MY PAN WEAR OUT OVER TIME?

With proper care, Merten & Storck cookware can last a lifetime. For specific care information, refer to our product care pages.

CAN I USE METAL UTENSILS?

Our carbon steel and stainless steel pans are metal utensil safe. While our GlazeGuard enamel is tough enough for metal utensils, softer tools made of nylon, silicone, and wood will protect your pan’s coating.

ARE YOUR PANS DISHWASHER SAFE?

Many of our collections are dishwasher safe, but carbon steel pans are hand wash only. Check packaging or your collection’s page for care recommendations.

MY PAN’S SURFACE IS SCRATCHED, IS THAT A PROBLEM?

Minor scratches, dents, or pits won’t affect the safety or performance of your pan. Some scratches may be residue left by kitchen utensils. Enamel is stronger than stainless steel, so this is common. Use a gentle cleaning compound to remove them. We recommend using rubber, wood, and silicone utensils. Deep scratches or chips may affect your pan’s performance, but it will still be safe for food. Major damage to enameled pots and pans can change the pan’s dishwasher safety.

Using Oils

SHOULD I USE OILS?

Definitely. It makes food taste better, after all. It also helps distribute heat. But remember—some fats burn at lower temps and burnt on oils make a pan sticky. For high-heat frying, we recommend oils with a high smoke point (e.g. peanut oil, avocado oil, grapeseed oil, etc). Avoid spray oils, though—they burn quickly. We recommend cooking at a low to medium temp, that way you can avoid burning oils.

WHAT TYPE OF OIL SHOULD I USE?

Oils with high smoke points are best. What are those? Avocado oil, canola oil, and grapeseed oils are great examples. If you use EVOO, watch your heat to prevent it from burning onto your pan. We recommend watching the heat with oils. Burned oils can create a layer of sticky carbonization on your pans. We recommend avoiding spray oils, including aerosols, mist, and pump sprays. Small spray droplets will heat up very rapidly and carbonize easily on the pan’s surface.

WHAT DO I DO WITH BURNT ON OILS?

If your pan gets a little too hot your oil can burn, which creates sticky spots on your pan. But don’t worry, you can get rid of them with a melamine sponge and a bit of water. To avoid burning oils altogether, you can cook on low to medium heat and use an oil with a high smoke point like avocado oil, canola oil, or grapeseed oil.

WHAT STOVETOPS CAN I USE MY PANS ON?

Our cookware works on all stovetops, including induction. Check your packaging for more information or refer to our product pages.

IS MERTEN & STORCK INDUCTION COMPATIBLE?

All our stainless steel and carbon steel collections are induction compatible. Check our product pages from specific product features and compatibilities.

CAN I PUT MY PAN IN THE OVEN?

Yes, Merten & Storck cookware is oven safe. For specific temperature restrictions please refer to your packaging or your product’s page. If you are unsure, please contact us for clarification customercare.us@mertenandstorck.com

WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT?

We accept most major credit and debit cards, PayPal, Google Pay, Shop Pay, and Klarna Installment Pay.

HOW MUCH DOES SHIPPING COST?

Shipping to the 48 continental US states is a standard flat rate of $5.99. Receive free standard shipping to the continental United States when you spend $125 or more (excl. sales tax). Shipping to Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico is a flat rate of $30 on all orders.

WHERE IS MY ORDER SHIPPING FROM?

Your order will ship from our East or West Coast Distribution Center based on delivery location and product availability.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY ORDER?

We will ship your order as soon as possible within 1-5 days of receipt. Standard shipping takes 5-8 business days from date of shipment.

WHERE DO YOU SHIP?

We deliver to addresses in the 50 United States and Puerto Rico. We do not ship to PO and APO boxes. We cannot ship to Canada, South America or the US Virgin Islands. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Tracking Orders & Returns

WHERE IS MY ORDER?

When your order ships, you will receive a confirmation email with your Fed Ex tracking number. If you would like to keep an eye on your package, you can reach out to Fed Ex directly or contact us at customercare.us@mertenandstorck.com.

WHEN CAN I START TRACKING MY ORDER?

You can start tracking your order 24 hours after it ships.

WHAT IS YOUR RETURN POLICY?

Consumers may return their unused products within 60 days after receiving. We kindly accept returns for product that is unused and in original packaging. Due to the nature of the item, cookbooks cannot be returned and are final sale. The shipping cost of returning unwanted purchases to Merten & Storck is the responsibility of the consumer.
